Paul Jacob Bashour is a visual artist based in Los Angeles who has recently exhibited his works in Paris, Los Angeles, Chicago, and Newport, RI attracting the attention of collectors, designers and art enthusiasts around the world. His works can be found in private collections and selected galleries in the United States and abroad.
Paul Jacob began exploring painting, drawing and sculpture at an early age. He grew up in an artistic household, which moved from the midwest to Stockbridge, Massachusetts, home of illustrator Norman Rockwell, near the studio of sculptor Daniel Chester French, Chesterwood. Inspired by these historic creative personalities and while apprenticing with local artists, Bashour’s creative talents began to grow within the Berkshires’ artistic atmosphere.
In 1999, after visiting New York City, Paul Jacob became instantly hooked by the city’s architecture, culture, art and music scenes, and eventually decided to move there. During his years in New York, he started a painting company to support his art, and did plaster and tiling as well. This work influenced Paul’s artistic technique and his evolution toward abstraction, and it contributed to his unique style of using tools and materials that were then at hand, like plaster, mortar, a trowel, dropcloth and gallons of acrylic paint.

Paul is passionate for painting and creating, and pours out his whole self onto the canvas. Without a brush or easel, he paints horizontally on saw horses. Using a trowel and his hands, he throws, pours and spreads in layer after layer, creating a sculpture on canvas. He uses mixed media including recycled strips of left-over canvas and acrylic paint, mixing the elements on the canvas.
In 2016, Paul Jacob Bashour launched his own international tour entitled “We Are All Art,” creating and presenting a series of paintings in several cities: Paris, Los Angeles, Berlin, London, Tel Aviv, Milan and New York, under a theme that sees each person as a self-created work of art. Bashour completed the Paris segment of his tour with success in the fall of 2016, placing several works with clients in Paris and New York. Also a filmmaker and photographer, Paul Jacob is capturing photos to create a book of each city experience, and as he meets local artists he plans to film and create a short documentary of artists’ interviews on the topic of art around the world.
Bashour lives and works in Hollywood, and opened the L.A. segment of “We Are All Art” in the winter of 2017 in Beverly Hills. Due to his success in Los Angeles, he was commissioned to paint for a private collector in Chicago in May 2017, which led to him being invited to create a series of works now presented in galleries in Chicago. Each city, with its own heritage, people and artistic soul, has inspired and will inspire the artist in creating and showcasing unique, organic new works, with materials from that place and the idea that “we are all art.”
